Champions at the 2024 PanAm Selection Event!

Congratulations to the success of all 44 athletes from Wayland Li Wushu that competed in the 2024 Ontario Martial Arts Games and Selection Event!

Key achievements:

  • 44 athletes in high performance Wushu divisions with stellar results: 41 gold medals πŸ₯‡, 28 silver medals πŸ₯ˆ, and 12 bronze medals πŸ₯‰

  • Optional Division: 9 gold medals πŸ₯‡, 4 silver medals πŸ₯ˆ. Athletes that qualified for PanAm Games include Erica, Rex, Caleb and Tiggy.

  • Group A: 8 gold medals πŸ₯‡, 9 silver medals πŸ₯ˆ, and 1 bronze medal πŸ₯‰. Athletes that qualified for PanAm Games include Amanda, Chloe, Ellie, Kai-Hsin, Chris and Allen.

  • Group B: 14 gold medals πŸ₯‡, 8 silver medals πŸ₯ˆ, and 7 bronze medal πŸ₯‰. Athletes that qualified for PanAm Games include Lia, Venus, Roberta, Cindy, Marcus, Lucas, Timmy, Johnny and Robert.

  • Group C: 10 gold medals πŸ₯‡, 7 silver medals πŸ₯ˆ, and 4 bronze medal πŸ₯‰. Athletes that qualified for PanAm Games include Thea, Brianna, Clara, Khloe, Avery, Ryan, Eason and Jiahao.

Congrats to our Athletes on Your Wushu Canada Awards!

Congratulations to Lia and Amanda!

On March 17, 2024, Wushu Canada β€” together with the City of Markham β€” recognized two Wushu Canada athletes from Wayland Li Wushu for their accomplishments in the sport.

  • Lia Tang-Ruggiero was recognized as β€œMost promising Wushu Taolu Athlete of the Year 2023”

  • Amanda Sun was recognized as β€œWushu Taolu Rising Star of the Year 2023”

In 2022, at the 8th World Junior Wushu Championships, Lia won gold for Group B Gunshu, silver for Group B Changquan and bronze for Group B Daoshu. Amanda placed 5th in Group B Jianshu and 6th in Group B Qiangshu.

Thank you to Shifu Li for his diligent coaching througout the years.

Further, thank you to Mr. Sunny Tang, president of Wushu Canada for presenting the award, as well as Rosalynn Kwok for coordinating the awards.

2018 U.S. Challenge X

Congratulations to our 7 athletes from Wayland Li that competed in the 2018 U.S. Challenge X (ηΎŽε›½η²Ύθ‹±θ΅›)! 

The October 7th, 2018 competition was organized by the U.S. Wushu Academy, as well as support from Kung Fu Magazine (TigerClaw), Zhao Changjun Wushu Academy and World Swordsmen Federation.

In addition, the event hosted a β€œTrain with Coach Wu Bin (吴彬)” workshop the day before the tournament. Our students were very honored and excited to train with Jet Li and Zhang Laoshi’s coach.

Wushu Official Event at Ontario Winter Games

The Ontario Winter Games will run from March 1-4, 2018 and Wushu will be an official sport featured at the Games.

The event is organized by the Ontario Winter Games and Wushu Ontario, and will be held at the Bracebridge and Muskoka Lakes Secondary School.

The Wushu division will feature Sanda and Wushu Taolu competitive events.

Athletes from Wayland Li Martial Arts Centre will be competing at the Games.

10th Pan-Am Wushu Championships, Costa Rica

Nine students from Wayland Li were selected to represent Canada at the 2014 PanAm Wushu Championships. We were awarded a total of 12 medals, including 5 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze.  Congratulations to everyone for your achievements and to Sarah and Erica for your gold medal performances!

2014 Youth Olympics, Wushu Tournament in Nanjing, China

Nima represented Canada at the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympics, placing second in Jianshu and fifth in Qiangshu against global competitors.  Amazing achievement!
