Wushu and Lion Dance Demos for Family Day Weekend

To close out the Lunar New Year festivities, the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto invited Wayland Li Wushu to perform at the Aga Khan Museum over the February break long weekend (Feb 15-17).

Each day consisted of two lion dances throughout the museum interacting with the crowds of familes, and a wushu demonstration on the event stage.

Markham City Government Recognition of Team Canada Junior Wushu Athletes

On Sunday, February 16, 2025, members of Canadian National Junior Wushu Team were honoured for their achievements at the 9th World Junior Wushu Championships by local Canadian government officials.

Thank you to Mr. Michael Chan, Deputy Mayor of Markham for organizing the award recognitions for our Canadian youth athletes and hosting a presentation ceremony. Additionally, thank you to Mr. Frank Scarpitti, Mayor of Markham, for your continued support. Your support of our athletes and the advancement of the Canadians in the sport of Wushu on the world stage means a lot to us!

Those honoured were Lia, Ryan, Thea, Eason, Chris, Marcus, Venus, Amanda, Allen and Kai-Hsin. They were presented each with a plaque from the City of Markham and bouquet of flowers for their outstanding achievements (see more here).

And a big shoutout to Coach Li for initiating the recognition for our world champions.

Congrats Yuki on China tournament achievements!

Congrats Yuki Xu for your achievements at the 2024 Guangdong Kids Wushu Elite Tournament (2024εΉ΄εΉΏδΈœηœε°‘ε„Ώζ­¦ζœ―η²Ύθ‹±θ΅›), in Shenzhen, China.

Yuki competed in the youth division and took home a gold medal πŸ₯‡and silver medal πŸ₯ˆin Changquan and Gunshu.

The tournament had over 300 teams from across the province of Guangdong, with more than 10,000 young athletes competing in various wushu taolu divisions.

Congrats Yuki on becoming the Guangdong Province young champion!

Congratulations to the success of all 14 athletes from Team Canada, including 10 from Wayland Li Wushu, that participated in the 9th World Junior Wushu Championships!

  • Bronze medal πŸ₯‰in Group A Qiangshu for Chris Gao

  • Venus Li, Marcus Li, Amanda Sun, Allen Liu and Kai-Hsin Chang finishing with top 10 or better placements in their respective divisions

  • With 3 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals, there was the strongest showing for Team Canada ever in a single competition event. Canada placed 8th overall!

Congratulations to all of national team athletes from across Canada, including Junchen Yang, Virigina Cai, Melissa Hai and Julianna Huang. It was a blast to be on this journey together!

The championships were held in Brunei from September 22 - 29, 2024.

And a special congratulations to Shifu Wenqi Li and Coach Erica Li for your hard work and perserverance in coaching so many athletes.

Congrats on results at 2024 Pan-Am Wushu Championships

Congratulates to all Canadian athletes that competed in the 2024 Pan-American Wushu Championships! 

Dates: August 29th - September 2, 2024

Location: Santa Clara, California, United States

Key Achievements:

  • Nearly 60 members of the Canadian Wushu National Team competed in the championships, representing Canada among more than 1,000 athletes from 12 countries participating in the games

  • Wayland Li athletes won a total of 21 πŸ₯‡gold medals, 19 πŸ₯ˆsilver medals and 10 πŸ₯‰bronze medals

  • Congratulations everyone on your hard work and amazing achievements!

  • Rex Lam was the 2024 Canadian National Champion for senior male athletes, and Erica Li was the 2024 Canadian National Champion for senior female athletes

  • Open recreational events: 8 students participated in competition for the first time, taking home many gold, silver and bronze medals.

Upcoming Wushu Championships - let's go!

This fall brings plenty of national and international Wushu competitions.

We thrilled to be competing at the Canadian National Championships this coming weekend, and then at PanAm Wushu Championships later in August (Santa Clara, California).

Our athletes have been training hard under the guidance of Master Li. We hope to make the Canadian National Team and compete at this year’s 9th World Junior Wushu Championships being held in Brunei.
