We're ready for the 16th World Wushu Championships!

The 16th World Wushu Championships are around the corner, and our athletes are ready to represent Team Canada on the global stage!

This year’s championships are hosted in Dallas, Texas from November 14-22, 2023.

From Wayland Li Wushu, we have two athletes on the national team: Erica Li competing in the Women’s Division, and Rex Lam competing in the Men’s Division.

We celebrate at a traditional Nadam Fair - Inner Mongolian style!

On September 9, 2023, the Wayland Li wushu team and family members attended a traditional Nadam Festival in Newmarket, Ontario. The cultural event was hosted by the Inner Mongolian Association of Canada, and our students performed Lion Dance and Wushu.

Plenty of cultural events were hosted including archery, horseback riding, grilled meats, bonfire, etc.

Wushu and Lion Dance at the 2023 Toronto Dragon Festival

On September 1 and 2, 2023, Wayland Li Wushu performed at the 2023 Dragon Festival in Toronto, Canada. Our students from beginners to experienced athletes came together to put on performances of Wushu and Lion Dance. Thank you to the Dragon Festival organizing committee for hosting us!

Congratulations to all Wayland Li athletes on your amazing achievements at the 4th PanAm Kungfu Championships (第四届泛美武术功夫锦标赛)!

Summerfest 2023 Wushu Performance

On July 8, 2023, we performed Wushu at the 2023 Summerfest in Scarborough at the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto.

Canada Day Wushu Demo!

On July 3rd, 2023, the performance team of Wayland Li Wushu held a demonstration at the Aga Khan Museum for Canada Day festivities. The event was sponsored by the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto (CCC), and featured a Wushu and Lion Dance performance by our team of athletes.

Wushu, Lion and Dragon Dance for Asian Heritage Month

On May 28, 2023, the demonstration team of Wayland Li Wushu performed at Toronto’s Dundas Square to celebrated Asian Heritage Month. Our team first performed Lion and Dragon Dancing, followed by a Wushu demonstration.

The weather was sunny, the drums were loud, and the fun was abundant. Great job everyone!

Wushu and Lion Dance Demo at Aga Khan Museum

On February 18-20, 2023, the Wayland Li Wushu team performance a lion dance and wushu demonstration for Lunar New Year at the Aga Khan Museum.

The Family Day weekend event was held to celebrate Lunar New Year in partnership with the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto.

Wushu Champions at the 2023 Ontario Winter Games!

Congratulations to the success of all 53 athletes from Wayland Li Wushu that competed in the 2023 Ontario Winter Games!

The biannual Ontario Winter Games is supported by the Ontario Government through its Games Ontario program. The provincial sports program attracts more than 3,000 participants competing in over 20 sports. Wushu has been an official sport of the games since 2018.

The competition was held February 10th to 12th in Arnprior, Ontario.

Key achievements:

  • More than 30+ athletes competing for the first time in high performance wushu competition

  • 8 gold medals among Rex Lam, Rasa Rahnema, Thomas Chen, Chloe Lee, Sophia Liao, Eason Gao, Ryan Gao and Melody Lin

  • 7 silver medals among Sissi Tu, Michael Lee, Alex Yang, Ellie Jiang, Elva Wang, Liya Thurairajah, Lily (Jiarui) Li

  • 6 bronze medal among Amanda Sun, Clara Tang-Ruggiero, Jediah Tu, Candice Leung, Benjamin Li and Emily Feng

Congrats to everyone - your hard work paid off!

And a special congratulations to Shifu Li for your dedication and leadership in bringing more than 50+ athletes to competition-ready status with only 2-3 months of training!
